Reading Li Shang-in: Falling Flowers

READING LI SHANG-YIN. This text, written in the early 1990s, is one of the earliest instances of my writing-into an existent text. Here the words of the translated poem by Li Shang-yin appear in italics. Later this writing-into, impletion, impregnation – I’ve never decided on a proper name – writing-into seems easiest – would produce the book Mont Blanc, a writing-into Shelley’s ode, as well as other texts built into Whitman, Hart Crane, John Clare.

“Reading Li Shang-yin” was originally published in Conjunctions, and is reprinted here from my Red Actions.
